January Diary
As we begin to find our way through the first days of the New Year I hope that it will be a good one for all of you. For some however the New Year has brought a terrible vista, never before experienced by so many people. I speak of course of the terrible tragedy that is unfolding in Haiti even as I write this piece.
Can you imagine what it must be like to stand in front of a collapsed building and know that your 5 children are trapped inside and to wait there hour after hour, day after day, night after night with no one to come and rescue them. How do you try and accept the fact that you will never see them alive again. Would you not hear them every night for the rest of your life every time you close you eyes to try and sleep? Such is the story of one mother who lost her five children this week. Such a story can be old and retold by tens of thousands.
We can not ever imagine the pain and the loss. Five year ago I wrote the song “ How can I heal your Broken Heart ” this very month, after I had seen the footage from the terrible devastation of the tsunami in Asia . Now sadly, the same words become so appropriate in the same month, all be it for a different place.
Let us remember in our thoughts and prayers all who are lost, all who are grieving, all who are searching, all who are waiting, all who are weeping, all who working to end the misery and suffering. Each of us can play our part, no matter how big or how small. To stop and be mindful of the suffering of another is a gift in itself.
January is a time to make new plans and we too will be making ours as we look back gratefully on the year that’s been. Soon we will be unveiling our hopes and aspirations for the New Year and already it looks like a busy year with lots of new music with old friends and hopefully lots of new fans !
Thank you to all of you who made The Hope Prayer a best seller! I have received countless emails and letters with kind words and I appreciate all who took the time to write.
I would like to conclude this diary remembering our brothers and sisters in Haiti
‘How can I heal your broken heart
When all of the pieces are fractured apart
And though it may seem that we’re worlds afar
I pray you find someone
I pray you find someone
Who will hold you – through the dark’
With blessings
Liam
