May Diary

It’s hard to believe that summer is almost with us again and yet here in Ireland we are hoping that we will have a summer especially after floods, snow, volcanic ash, not to mention recession and all the other problems that beset our country and the world in the last year. I have always found a great refuge in music and especially sharing it with others. Music has an ability to transcend the most difficult of circumstances or even help us to articulate the emotions that we feel most at a vulnerable time.

Recently we have had some wonderful concerts in various communities throughout the country. We received a huge welcome when we travelled back to Belfast. It’s been a while since I performed there but I need not have worried as the hospitality afforded us was wonderful. We had a fantastic night with a fantastic crowd who were in great singing form. We will be back !! Sincere thanks to our friends in Belfast and all the other venues throughout the country who supported us so well.

I had an amazing reaction to my RTE Radio Programme on Good Friday. In fact RTE received many calls afterwards. Thank you also to all the people who took time to write to me personally. Your support is greatly appreciated and it’s lovely to know that the reflections and music struck a chord at this time.

As I write this piece I am also very aware of the sad passing of Gerry Ryan the RTE Presenter who died so tragically yesterday in Dublin. I worked with Gerry on a project with Jose Carreras when he last came to Dublin and I found him to be a perfect gentleman. Our prayers and thoughts are with him, his family, close friends and colleagues in RTE. May he rest in Peace.

I am very excited to say to tell you that we will be announcing two special projects very soon, so watch our website. I am almost finished writing the songs for the new album and really look forward to the creative process with Mark in the studio. We will also have some other very experienced people to help us create a whole different sound which hopefully will be ready in the autumn.

Just as I finish this the heavens have opened and its pouring rain….so much for my dream of the perfect summer !!!

Lets keep hoping …….

Liam
